  • Will sand improve my heavy clay soil?
    In short, No. The best way of improving heavy clay soil is by adding organic matter. Organic matter can be anything from Home made compost, Leaf mould or our organic soil improver.
  • How do I improve my sandy soil?
    In Sheffield gardens we tend to have heavier soils, but if you find you have a sandy soil it will need correcting. Sandy Soil is light, warm, dry and tends to be acidic and low in nutrients. Sandy soils are often known as light soils due to their high proportion of sand and little clay (clay weighs more than sand). These soils have quick water drainage, are low in nutrients, and are easy to work with. By adding a thick layer (5-15cm) of organic matter such as home made compost, leaf mould, well rotted Manure, or our Organic Soil improver.
